Echo Valley Pistol League

January / February 2007

Comments Pertaining to Last Season:

We had very good attendance at the majority of our matches in 2006. Principal points of the 2006 shooting season are as follows:

1. We ran 2  day/night matches in 2006. One was in the spring, followed by another one in the fall. For shooters who may be interested, but were unable to attend, these matches consist of a standard daylight match, with 4 to 5 stages. After all shooters have shot the day match, we break for supper and conversation. Head Country Bar B Que was the order of the day, for the evening meal. As soon as the Kansas Sky darkens, we then shoot three night stages, in which shooters must first properly identify, and then engage only those targets that are deemed a “threat”. Flashlights are required. Everyone seems to have a great time, and to a person, I think the night stages truly “teach” lessons that are usable in self-defense type situations. As Echo Valley Pistol League is located in the rural east side of Cowley County, it also so happens to get VERY dark out there!
2. We had several three gun matches in the later part of the year. Shooters truly seemed to enjoy these. The long distance rifle stages seemed to go over particularly well. Shooters were smacking long range steel until dusk each match day, just for the challenge of it.
3. We changed shooting venues from the International Defensive Pistol Association to the Tactical Shooting Association (TSA for short). Under TSA, the holster rules are more in tune to what shooters “actually” use, and are not arbitrary, as in some other venues. In addition, we have found that the TSA target is more challenging and the TSA Classifier Course is significantly more challenging that that utilized by IDPA. I guess it should be, as the person who “set the time standards” for this COF was none other than Dave Sevigny, the world champion IPSC and IDPA shooter, who shoots for Glock Inc. Another plus for TSA, is that their rules include not only handgun competition, but shotgun, rifle/carbine and even sub gun competition as well.
