Mid
April 2006 EVPL Newsletter. Greetings
to everyone! The
April 15th day and night match went very well and was well
attended. The day was very warm and very, very windy! The wind was such a
factor, that all steel was set to “ring” and the chronograph was not
used, as we found it to be impossible to keep the screens in place long
enough to shoot over them! I heard more than a few comments that the wind
was also a factor when shooting. I know it was for me, especially when
attempting to fire shots at distances greater than 7 yards! There is
nothing like firing off a round, just as the wind buffets you, pushing you
off target! Day
match: 26
shooters fired the day portion of the match, which consisted of four
stages, requiring shooters to shoot from cover, with cover garments. The
day portion concluded at 4:30pm. Many
of the shooters relaxed and talked a great deal concerning the upcoming
Kansas CCW training and certification, while other shooters fired through
the classifier. While several “side matches” were set up, the majority
of the attendees chose to relax and get out of the wind. BBQ:
Paula
once again made the trek to Oklahoma to pick up Head Country BBQ for us. A
BIG thanks to Kent and Paula Radcliff. Your hospitality is one of the
things that *makes* our matches such a success! It was very nice, after
being buffeted by the Kansas wind all day, to set down to a cold glass of
water or pop, and a plate full of BBQ at 6:00pm!
Several comments were made that we should shoot day/night matches
every time, if we get BBQ at the end of it! Night
Match: After
a safety briefing, the night match started at approximately 8:30pm. Three
stages, using ambient light, and/or flashlights were set up. We concluded
at 11:00pm. Several shooters had not had the opportunity to fire during
darkness before and I am certain that everyone learned a thing or two!
Match
Scoring: The
scores for this months match should be posted on the website as you are
reading this. If not, it will be posted shortly. A
HUGE thanks to Greg Lada
for developing the Access based match scoring software for our TSA
matches. It looks great, the reports contain all relevant information and
it sure beats scoring the old fashioned way (pencil and calculator).
Thanks Greg!! Next
